Caroline County DUI Penalties

A DUI is a criminal offense. If you have been charged with driving under the influence or driving while intoxicated, a lawyer can explain the consequences you face if you are convicted. Some of these criminal penalties include:

  • Substantial fines
  • Points on your driving record
  • Possible revocation or suspension of your driving privileges
  • Jail time

Every case is different depending on the facts, including BAC and whether there was an accident. However, it is important to note that each subsequent offense carries harsher penalties.

Caroline County DUI Traffic Stop

An experienced Caroline County DUI attorney will be familiar with the circumstances that led to your charge. Most likely, you were pulled over in a routine traffic stop for speeding or for a broken headlight. While the officer was talking to you, he may have noticed the smell of alcohol, bloodshot eyes, or impaired motor skills. These factors gave the officer reason to suspect you have been drinking.
During the traffic stop, you are not required to divulge the events of your night—you are only required to give the officer your name and identification. You can politely invoke your right to remain silent until speaking with a lawyer.

Caroline County Courthouse

If you were arrested for drunk driving, your case will likely be heard before a judge at the Multi-Service Center, located at 207 South Third Street in Denton, Maryland. When you appear in court, one of the attorneys on our side can be your advocate moving forward.
The Court is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Honorable Karen Murphy Jensen is the Court’s administrative judge. You can call the court directly at (410) 479-2303 to reach the court directly for more information about their hours and availability. Parking around the court is available, but it does go quickly. Don’t take a chance on parking; make sure you leave early if you have an appointment so that you have time to park elsewhere if the court parking is full.
