Experience & Background

Jack McCoy focuses his practice on criminal defense, handling cases involving traffic violations, violent offenses, theft-related charges, and other complex criminal matters. He also has a strong interest in cyber-related cases, including online crimes and civil rights issues such as the non-consensual distribution of personal images.

Jack has extensive experience working with individuals from low- to middle-income backgrounds, providing legal support through nonprofit and public-interest roles as well as within the private sector. His career has been shaped by a longstanding commitment to civil rights and a desire to advocate for individuals navigating the criminal justice system.

Before becoming an attorney, Jack spent over a decade working in IT, giving him a unique technical perspective valuable in cases involving digital evidence, cybercrime, and emerging technologies.
Jack is admitted to practice in Washington, DC and in multiple federal courts, including the U.S. District Courts for DC and Maryland, as well as federal appellate courts. He is also a member of the National Lawyers Guild.

Jack takes a client-focused approach to criminal defense, ensuring that each client understands their options and feels supported throughout the legal process. Outside of his legal work, he enjoys skydiving, cycling, and participating in recreational sports such as flag football, softball, and rugby.
